What’s been adding value in December
the science behind making habits stick, beautiful journals and an end of year financial check in
Hello you!
Welcome to the final edition of what’s been adding value feature for 2023. This is everything I’ve taken pleasure in this month. As always I hope you find a few gems in here for you too.
Watches
Sex education is back for its final series and I’ve been binge watching over Christmas. I love how this show explores relationships at all ages and dives into subjects usually avoided. It’s also really funny.
Amélie is a film I thought I’d seen before but it must have been a long time ago because when rewatching it there was a lot I’d forgotten. It’s a French film about a lonely introverted girl who starts helping those around her in Paris.
Maestro came up as a recommendation on Netflix. I saw Bradley Cooper, that it got a 7 minute standing ovation at the Venice film festival testimonial and instantly hit play. It tells the story of musician Leonard Bernstein and his complex relationship with both his career and his wife. The cinematography and storytelling are truly spectacular.
Call my agent has been on my to watch list for a long time now after being recommended by a friend. I finally started it over Christmas and have been loving every minute.
This end of year financial check in video is a great quick watch full of practical financial tips from one of my favourite YouTubers Nischa. I worked through each one ahead of the new year and feel so good for having done so.
Books
Atomic habits has blown my mind. If you love to geek out on the science behind human behaviour and how we can use it to change our lives for the better like I do then you’ll love this book. James Clear has studied habits and how we can engrain the tiniest ones to completely transform our lives. He’s incredibly generous with his knowledge and explains everything very simply. I found it super motivating too.
The little Paris bookshop is a book that was given to me on Christmas Day and I haven’t been able to put it down. It’s a love letter to Paris, books and love itself. The writing is my favourite kind - simple and poetic all at once. I think you’d love it if you’re in the market for a new novel to dive into.
