And based on his desire to be intimate with you after your relationship ended seems like a pattern. I can see why the attraction is still there but glad it helped you to learn what you needed in the relationship and to know that he couldn't provide it. Have I had something similar? Yes.

I so admire your sharing such intimate and honest evaluations of yourself. At an age where I no doubt am old enough to be your mum, I am only just taking control of the life I wish to have. I leave a trail of ghastly mistakes behind me, but I have few regrets for I realize regret serves no purpose at all except to make us punish ourselves. The Simple Letter is one of my favorite reads, and I would "upgrade to paid" were I not figuratively sitting on a powder keg over here in the U.S. Keep sharing; I will keep learning.
He sounds like he was performing a role, enacting a well scripted version of the Parisienne version of the perfect romance. How lovely to feel swept away by it all. One should enjoy that experience at least once in one's life. It's a testament to your commitment to your own health and well being that you were able (and willing) to see through the beautiful illusion and determine for yourself whether or not it could endure the test of time. Many men are so perfect on paper but when it comes to that connection and intimacy there often seems to be a disconnect or mild objectification that becomes repellant! Dating is hard - and fun though. I’m older than you and I’ve been single for a long time. My looks are now fading - and I now see this as a good thing. When I go dating again I’ll find men who’ll look harder to find who I am inside!
