Ten simple solo creative date ideas to try
Get dressed darling, we're going out! (or maybe not)
Hello you!
Taking ourselves on a creative solo date sounds so dreamy right? Just us enjoying some alone time doing something we enjoy and inspiring. The two sticklers are scheduling the time to do it (which only you can do) and coming up with ideas - which is where I feel I can help.
I’ve been taking myself on solo creative dates since I read the Artist’s Way and they’ve worked wonders, not only for my creativity but my confidence too. Each time I experience something new alone I feel I sink a layer deeper into myself and my life. Ideas come, the independence of the act is empowering and the play aspect opens new doors.
So, in case you’re struggling here are ten creative date ideas for you to try. I’ve mixed in stay at home ideas with out and about, costly ones vs free and quick ones with those that will seduce you for an entire day. I hope this is the juicy menu you need to start indulging.
1. Museum - looking at art is a great way to reconnect with creativity outside of the digital world. Everything we see created today in terms of digitally is a direct descent of the classics. Going to a gallery and looking at compositions, textures, colours and thinking about what the artist is trying to convey will not only make you feel less alone but also inspire your potential future creations.
2. Photo walk - going on a walk with the solo intention of seeing the world through your camera can open up your whole universe. Forget Instagram here and just allow yourself to be drawn to what you’re drawn to. Follow your feelings. You might be surprised.
3. Nature forage - Nature has undeniable and scientifically proven healing aspects. Your heart rate will slow, your anxiety lessen and as a result you’ll hear the messages coming through from your intuition. Pick a few things to bring home from your time spent there like fallen branches, flowers or cones. Arrange them in a way that pleases you when you get home.
4. Cooking - I’m only just discovering the creative side to cooking but I’m starting to get very excited about it. Taking the time to prepare a meal you’ve always wanted to try or baking treats for the sheer joy of it will push you creatively and you don’t even have to leave the house. I recommend dancing in the kitchen as a side order with this one.
5. Library - libraries are free to join and hold all the information you could ever need, they can also be incredibly beautiful depending on where you live. Go and see which books you’re drawn to, allow yourself to flip through them, read snippets and then move onto the next. Take a child like approach here and follow your curiosity.
