Hello you!
In my how to build a year round capsule wardrobe step by step guide I talk about the importance of having a brand directory. It’s a little ritual I’ve practiced for years now and really helped me simplify as well as streamline the intentional shopping process. Knowing where to turn to for what saves a lot of time and makes outfit curation easier because brands tend to compliment their existing pieces. We can minimise distractions and stay in our lane.
My directory will and should look different to yours depending on what your personal style is but I thought it would be useful to share mine so you can see how this works in practice. Your directory doesn’t have to be big, there’s no right or wrong size. It’s perfectly ok to have just one brand on it if that feels good for you. It’s also ok to have plenty on there. The point is having an anchor to ground you so you’re not heading out to the shops without a compass.
My current three keywords in terms of personal style are feminine, simple and functional. Ideally each piece in my wardrobe should embody these words. If you click through and have a browse you’ll see that all these brands reflect my words in their designs so the choices always make sense. Sticking to these brands, my four chosen colours and my keywords is how I curate a small, cohesive wardrobe that’s still versatile and feels like me.
Ready for the list? Let’s dive in…
Sezane - There isn’t much I wouldn’t turn to this brand for. It’s my stand out favourite for just about everything and makes up the majority of my current capsule wardrobe. I love their soft colour choices, simple but stylish designs and how they cover all the staples that make up my style.
Maje - The place I go for special standout pieces and accessories. This is also a shop I like to frequent in person to run my fingers over the luxurious fabrics they use and soak up outfit inspiration. I’ve currently got one of their belts on my wishlist I enjoy trying on with whichever outfit I have on that day to test it’s versatility before I buy it.
