Hello you!
Writing a book was a dream of mine for a long time and writing books for a living remains my long term fantasy. Last year my dream came true when Enough was published. I finally got to see behind the curtain of the book publishing world and I learnt a lot, myths were busted and there’s a lot I wish I’d known before. I want to share everything I learned with anyone else who’s either interested in writing a book themselves or currently riding the rollercoaster. I asked you what you wanted to know about the book writing process and here come the answers.
How do you decide if a book idea is worthy?
Ok let’s get straight into the woo woo. I believe ideas come through us not from us just like Elizabeth Gilbert talks about in her brilliant book Big Magic. Co-incidences are not my vibe. So yes, I believe in the other worldly and that ideas find someone to bring them to life. If that’s you then you should be incredibly grateful but also that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re at the right time in your life to do it justice. Bringing an idea to life takes time and effort but the idea itself is always worthy and you are equally as worthy of it, otherwise it wouldn’t have chosen you. Once we realise the idea isn’t a reflection of us or our self-worth the process becomes a lot less intimidating and a lot more fun. Just know, that if you choose not to play with that idea then it will find someone else who will and you’ll potentially have to watch that play out, which can be quite painful and has happened many times.
I’d love to know what your writing process looked like, did you do little and often or mornings or evenings. Any tips on getting into the flow of it?
